In a few minutes, a bunch of us will be leaving to take Kate to the Charlotte airport. It's about a two and a half hour drive, and then we'll say goodbye, and she'll be gone. Solid gone, for 6 months, maybe more. We'll email, we'll post on our blogs, and we may even Skype and see each other's blurry faces over a WebCam, but she'll be gone, and we're gonna really miss her.
Funny, that sensation of missing someone who is so close and dear to you that you can almost feel that you're with them through what they're doing next... it's like that phenomenon of not being able to comprehend someone else's life apart from you, but then at the same time caring so much for them that there is some connection, even if they are across the ocean and in another time zone.
Kate is one of my very best friends, and I know that even when she is so far away in Congo, and I'm either home or in Colorado or Canada (we're livin' up the C-places these days) she will never "drift away from me". I know that we're gonna stay BFFs no matter where we go. I am very, very proud of her and she is a huge inspiration to me (as I'm sure she is to anyone who really knows her and hasn't just seen her behind the BGB table at Farmer's Market for the last couple million years).
Kate, you are an amazing woman and I am so very grateful and humbled to be your cousin. I will be praying for you in all your many adventures and journeys and I know that God will go before you into this place because you are walking in His will.
Boutez en Avant! L'chaim! and all that good stuff. I love you!

The White Martyr
The sky is white, and while it soars
Above the deep it bends the dawn,
And signals death from earth to sea.
Now the land is a strip against the sky,
The heart is left behind, or drowned.
The salt of tears and the ocean’s salt
Meet well, though strangers until now.
Someday a strange and foreign land
Will claim the tears, the heart, the love--
Soon blessed beyond the sad heart’s ken.
Thanks Sarah!! I love you too. That was really nice. :) Keep me updated on your goings on.
