And we probably are. Ian and I have been working out with Joshua Pinkerton and we have been doing some pretty fun stuff. Pulling ropes, throwing kegs, running with weights, etc. I have been slowly building up the muscles that I lost during my time in the CS department. Yesterday Ian and I made our personal records (PRs) for squatting. I squatted 205 lbs and I think he did 225 lbs. Most of the exercises that Joshua does help build what I call "practical muscles". They are the muscles that you use every day when you pull, push, throw, pick up, toss, or grip stuff. The exercises are also more interesting than simply lifting metal. Yesterday we did a medley that included pulling in a thick rope with a 60 pound sled on the end, dragging it back after we pulled it in, tossing a 25 pound keg in the air, and then sprinting over to a 190 pound yoke and carrying it about 75 feet. It's been great to workout with Ian and Joshua, because I am not the kind of person who is naturally inclined to go outside in the cold to exercise. I like fires and books in the winter. Two days ago I was sitting by the fire, curled up with a good book when I got a call from Joshua and thought to myself, "NOOOO! It's snowing!" But, I got off my hunkers, despite the snow, and felt a ton better for it. I'm hoping that by working out with Joshua and Ian, I'll be physically prepared if I get accepted to Spring Canyon in the summer.
On a totally different note: how many folks would be interested in starting a discussion group? I'm thinking about doing it over dinner (homemade pizza? Everyone brings a topping). Perhaps starting this Saturday? I'll be talking to some parents tonight to see what evening would be best. Hopefully we can have it up and running soon! Anyway, just putting the bug in your ears.
