Third Culture Family

"Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not." - 1 John 3:1

We are a very large family, in case you have yet to notice that from our many sporadic blog posts (and whatever other particulars you may have encountered in relation to our clan in your life).

We are characteristically loud, unconventional, spontaneous, [at times] intense, straightforward, unpredictable, unfathomably close-knit, and overflowing with love for one another and for our Lord Jesus. As it happens, we have so much love to go around that it sometimes spills over and we "adopt" non-Barrys into the fray. Kristen Pinkerton is our most recent family member, so if you see her noble brow appear in some pictures, or find her quoted in our Quotables, that would be why. She is practically one of us.

Barrys are not, in fact, normal people as a rule. I confess this has not always been easy to accept, but the above verse has so broadened my perspective on our unique situation that I am really so thankful for it, and now embrace our weirdness with great joy. Very few people "get" us... but where our Lord goeth, we will go, and if that means being a "Third Culture Family" to the eyes of the world (and even to our own sometimes, amusingly) then I say Boutez en Avant!

Hooray for the blog! (May it live forever.)

Lovely photos, Sarah... except the one of me is, well... alarming. :)

I hope your beach trip was awesome. Ours was. You should write about it.
