Hello... from C'ville!

Hey folks! It's been a while. Glad to see you all are keeping this blog alive! I wanted to check-in briefly and give a short update. Life has been going well here in C-ville. The last week has been crazy in an epic way--three 2am nights and a couple other 12am nights trying to finish work on a new template for the Journey Group blog. It's not quite done yet, but I'm thiiiiiiisssss close. Anyway, I wanted to give you all a small idea of the awesome place I get to work in. I'm the only one here right now, so you won't get people in the picture, but this is my office space. Yes. Everyone has their own 27" Apple monitor. Yes. The office looks like a ski lodge (hence the name). And, yes. Every day I have worked here has been awesome. I really hope I can get hired full-time, but I've got a lot of work to do before that can happen.

Here's a closer look at the room I work in...

This is just on the other side of the chimney...

This is my desk...

I hope you enjoyed that tour. Of course, the best part of this place isn't the place. It's the culture and the people. Journey Group has one of the coolest work cultures I've seen and I doubt I'll find another one like it. The people are all extremely talented at what they do and have a lot of fun doing it. We have graphic designers, photographers, web-developers, writers, artists, managers, accountants, etc.. And all of them are awesome. To give you a better idea of what I mean, I've been collecting quotes from the folks in the Ski Lodge. Here are some of the most recent:

Quotes from the Ski Lodge:

Justin: “Give me more epic-ness!… More! I want more!”

Matt: “I think that’s your opinion... and stuff”

Ashley (after making a crazy waving motion with her hand): “You would have done the same thing if I had done that! You would have done the same thing with your hand too…”

Justin: “Hey Ashley, have you found my earbuds yet?”
Ashley: “What? I can’t hear you with your earbuds in.”

After Ashley used Sharpies in the printer room…
Matt: “Does someone have a respirator? I have to go scan something?”

Ashley trying to do an Irish Accent: “The Tin Whistle!”
Seth: “That definitely wasn’t an Irish accent.”
Matt, after a short pause: “Now, I was about to say that that sounded like a witch, but then I realized that that could be taken the wrong way.”
Seth: “So you had to qualify it before you said it…”
Matt: “Pretty much.”
After another pause.
Matt: “If I were lost in the woods and heard someone speak in that voice, I would run the other way.”

While talking about how much different jobs pay… and just hearing that architects make less than designers.
Matt: “Really? Man. And it takes a lot of work to become an architect. You just wake up one day and decide that you want to be a designer and a year later you are!”

After eating and talking about the difference between Clementines and Satsumas…
Melanie: “It’s like I’m having a Satsuma party in my mouth.”

In response to Mike saying that after hearing a newly released cover of a Pink Floyd song, he had been reminded of an old Pink Floyd album he had owned.
Zack: “That’s like the other day when I was eating a banana Runt and I said to myself, ‘Man! Banana’s are good!’”

Out of the blue…
Ashley: “Da nah nah nah, Da nah nah nah!… Sorry. Got that song stuck in my head.”
Ashley (out loud while watching the Journey Reel by herself): “Beard. Guy. Beard. Guy. Beard. Guy. Glasses…. Beard.”

Matt: “I’m getting concerned. Zack says that about everything. ‘This ham sandwich is soooo Stacy Peralta’”

Zack: “I’m working on a book called ‘Things Black Guys Can Do That White Guys Can’t Do””

Zack: “I could slam dunk you… brah.”

Seth: “You don’t have enough time to look up YouTube videos?”
Ashely: “Yeah… I’d rather be graphic designing.”
Matt: “That could be a T-Shirt…”
Matt: “I could see that selling like hotcakes… which apparently sell really well because it’s a saying.”

Ashley (since no music is playing in the Ski Lodge): “Matt. Can you play more or less music.”
Matt: “Well it would be hard to play less music than I am playing now.”
(After a bit of back-and-forth)
Matt: “Ok. Well, do you have a special request?”
Ashley: “Play good music.”
Matt: “Oh. That’s helps.”

And now I'm back to coding... happy Thursday!
