This is a poem that Shepherd asked me to post, given that he is lacking an account:

SNOWETRY

The winds blew in the snow last night:
It stuck- behold! the land is white.
The pines are rolling, swaying,- glazed
With frosting sweet. I am amazed!
The weather’s chill, but oh! the sky
Is white, and wind whips breezes high;
Swift they come and swift pass by,
Swifter than ice freezes. Why?
Blustery like dust-storms white
The snow is swept up in swift flight:
Rises, whips like heavy cream
To top this gingerbread world.

The winds blew in the snow last night:
It stuck- behold! now all is white.
The pretzel sugared trees- they sway
While marshmallows mound up for play.
Oh Christmas come! unwrap the box
Of snow and ice and chilly frost;
Oh Christmas light! be bright and wreathe
Your warmest glow on coldest teeth
Of Winter, when it comes. Today
Is November twenty-seventh. Say!
The powdered sugar sprinkler’s bust.
It’s everywhere! like scattered dust.

The winds blew in the snow last night:
It stuck- behold! the land is white.
The maple leaves are brown and cold,
Dangling from the branches bold;
The cream of Winter stings the air
With icy chillings everywhere.
Oh Christmas come! the signs are white
That tell of stockings and firelight;
Oh Christmas cheer! be close, come near
To stifle dread and cast out fear.
The snowy roofs of gingerbread
Hang over us in love. O joy!
